Travel and Accommodation information: 

Already, the Garmin Mourne Skyline Mountain-Trail Race has attracted attention from athletes all around the world.  To assist those travelling to Northern Ireland for the event, we have included some information below.

Race HQ:

Our Race HQ and our 'base' for the weekend will be the Newcastle Baptist Church, Newcastle, County Down. This very close to Donard Park and is also approximately 400 metres from the START of the Garmin Mourne Skyline MTR.  The START of the race will be on the Promenade close to the Tourist Information Centre on Main Street, Newcastle (County Down).  The FINISH of the Garmin Mourne Skyline MTR will be in Donard Park (Newcastle), which is approximately 400 metres from the Tourist Information Centre. 

Travelling by Air:

Belfast International Airport:

Airlines who fly to Belfast International Airport include:  Easy Jet - Jet2 

Belfast International Airport is approximately 40 miles from Newcastle, County Down.


- All major Car Hire operators work out of the airport, their information and contact details can be found HERE.


- Another option is to use the Translink Airport Bus Service to Belfast (Europa Bus Centre); from there, you can get a bus to Newcastle. Please visit the TRANSLINK journey planner for specific details.

Belfast City Airport:

Airlines who fly to Belfast City Airport include:  BMI Baby - Flybe - Aer Lingus

Belfast City Airport is approximately 30 miles from Newcastle, County Down.

- The Airport Express 600 bus will take you to the Europa Bus Centre; from there, you can get a bus to Newcastle.  Please visit the TRANSLINK journey planner for specific details.

Travelling by Ferry:

Stena Line @ Belfast Harbour is approximately 30 miles from Newcastle, County Down.


- If you do not bring your own car, Europcar offer a Car Hire Service from the Belfast Port.


- Taxi's are available at the port and will cost you approximately £9 to get to the Europa Bus Centre; from there, you can get a bus to Newcastle.  Please visit the TRANSLINK journey planner for specific details.

Accommodation:

As Newcastle is a popular tourist location, there is an abundance of local hotels, bed and breakfast and hostels to choose from.  If you telephone the local Tourist Information Centre on 028 4372 2222 they will advise you of available accommodation in the area. Alternatively, here are a few hotels that we know would be well located:
